Here at All About Birds, we are specialist mutation breeders of the Green Cheek Conure and are currently working on the development of new and exciting colour variations. Contributing to the development of Green Cheek Conure mutations in Australia has been an extremely exciting and rewarding experience. One of the key factors to All About Birds' founder Craig Aquilina's success is an accumulation of 26 years of knowledge, commitment, and experience. This began at the tender age of 13 years, when Craig and his father purchased his first pair of peach face parrots from Merrylands Pets and Aquariums. It is from these humble beginnings that Craig now specializes in the breeding of Green Cheek Conure and their mutations. Craig's knowledge of genetics has enabled him to contribute the development of such colors as the Pineapples, Limes and others. Colour variations have been achieved and developed from the existing colours, those being the cinnamon and yellow sides (opalines). The process of combining two sex-linked colours with a recessive colour in one bird will be another challenge he will endeavour towards producing. The blue turquoise mutation, which Craig likes to refer to as the "True Blue" (a true producing blue turquoise), will enable him to develop additional colors such as blue yellow sides (opalines), blue cinnamons and blue pineapples. Other colour variations include the American dilute, Sun cheek (American dilute - yellow side) and pastel grey. These are just some of the other new exciting colour mutations that have been produced and developed, and who knows what other exciting colours and combinations can be achieved. In its own right, the Green Cheek Conure is a beautiful bird. With new colour mutations produced, it is now an irresistible pet and aviary bird. The Green Cheek Conure make fantastic pet birds if hand raised from a young age. At All About Birds, every young Green Cheek Conure intended for the pet market is hand raised from 2 weeks of age by a dedicated team of experienced hand-rearers. They are happy and mischievous without being destructive. Of all the conure speices, Green Cheek Conures are thought to be the most quiet, so even a unit or town house dweller with limited space can enjoy there companionship. They can be trained to perform and have the ability to learn to talk and bond with their owner. |
